Missy Wins Dog Race

Tonight at the very end of the Eddie MacMurdo horse show were the "World Famous Championship Dog Races" The rules are simple. Two people to a dog - one person holds the dog at the end of the arena while the other person goes to the opposite end of the arena. When the announcer says "GO" the handlers holding the dog let go while the other handler calls the dog. The dogs race across the arena and the first handler at the opposite end to get a secure hold of their dog wins the division. Two divisions: small dogs and big dogs.

There were five dogs in the small dog division and when the announcer said "Go" Missy had a bit of a slow start. She kind of ran along with the other dogs, somewhat confused, until she saw me. Then I was able to lift her up about the same time someone else got a hold of their dog. The judge could not determine who the clear winner was so they had us do a run-off. This time Missy knew what to expect and came barreling straight to me. Again, the other dog was faster (longer legs) but Missy has co-dependancy working in her favor. It was easy to catch her while the other dog was having too much fun to be restrained. So we were declared the winners and had our photo taken by the professional photographer with the judge and our basket of dog goodies that we were awarded.

Very fun! We will go back next year!

This year the dog races started about 10:30 and I was home by 11 pm.
