PetSmart Costume Contest

I have been working very hard on a costume for Buddy this year. I initially thought there would be a contest here in town put on by a rescue group. Well the ad I saw was for 2006 and as it turns out no one in town was hosting a contest after all. I had gotten Lara excited about this prospect already and we had both purchased our material and gotten started on costumes when we found out there wouldn't be a contest. So Lara decided to have her own contest. She has planned and invited the town and we anticipate at least 20 dogs to her party which will be next Monday evening.

Since I went to all this work on a costume I decided to make the most of it and took Buddy up to PetSmart tonight to their costume contest as well. (Trial run)

First we stopped by the model train store for Matt, and Levi helped me pick out some magazines for Larry at work.

Then we went to Granny's Buffet and ate dinner (thanks to Matt's grandpa for the gift card) :)

Then we went to PetSmart for the contest. I got Buddy dressed up in the parking lot. His costume is a little cumbersome, when he shakes it slips around and once his horse tail fell off and I had to put it back on.

In case you are wondering, he is supposed to be a "Charger" a medieval jousting horse.

Matt counted at least 20 dogs at PetSmart. There were some cute and clever costumes but the majority of them were store-bought costumes. When Buddy walked in I could hear the gasps and "wow, look at THAT one..." Lots of people came by to comment on Buddy's costume, most wanted to know if I had made it and then sounded impressed when I told them I had put in many hours on it. The unfortunate thing for Buddy was that the weight of the blanket kept pulling his mask back, which left him without vision for part of the evening. But he was such a good sport, he did not try to paw it off or anything.

There was one cat there who was on a leash and all dressed up. It won an honorable mention just for being a good sport.

Then they announced the winners at 8 pm. The judges were the petsmart employees.

3rd place was a very nice Boxer who was dressed up as a baby. It had on adult diapers with a GIANT fake safety pin, a giant pacifier around his neck, a giant blue baby bonnet and a bib that said "got milk?" It was pretty darn cute.

Second place was... my BUDDY! Wahoo!

First place went to a man and his dog who both had dressed up as Elvis. They came as "The Elvis twins" and Matt and I thought they were very deserving for first place. We didn't get a photo of them.

There were some other original costumes and I enjoyed seeing them and talking with everyone. There was one Boston Terrier in a skeleton t-shirt. A sweet little dog.

Buddy was the only pit bull there, and was so well mannered.

I should have coming to me in the mail a costume for Levi that will make him a Knight for our costume party at Lara's Howl-o-ween celebration. I thought that would be cute.
