In Loving Memory...

'PR' Yankee Pride Hobgoblyn (a.k.a. Goblyn) was my first UKC registered American Pit Bull Terrier. Shown many times, she never did get the majors she needed to finish, although she easily had the 100 points. She was down from Amber-Lite breeding. Bred by Janelle Hongel of Yankee Pride kennels in Washington State, she got me started on the road to chasing titles and "doing stuff" with my dogs. May she rest in peace, sweet little girl.

'PR' Amberlt Colriv Dream Come True (a.k.a. "Uma") was my replacement for Goblyn, many years later. However it was not to be. She stole our hearts and would take turns cleaning out the ears on the Bostons. Uma developed some temperament problems and was laid to rest about 10 months old.

UWP CH 'PR' Preacher's Exclusive Enzo CGC TT was my ideal of what an American Pit Bull Terrier should be. Conformationally correct, he earned his championship with ease even taking a Best of Winners. He had lovely effortless movement, and a rock stable temperament. Bred by Parish Plumlee in Washington state, he was also down from Amber-Lite lines. He also earned his weight pull title without too much trouble and seemed to enjoy the challenge. He was friendly and athletic and everything one could want in a dog. Unfortunately for Enzo, he started having seizures. They were occasional to start with but it wasn't long before they became more frequent and started affecting his quality of life. Putting him on pheno didn't seem to help and with a very heavy heart we made the difficult decision to put him down. If only they could all be like him...

Kismet's Beatrix Kiddo

BeBe was born on June 10, 2005 to my homebred girl Bonnie. BeBe is a welcome improvement to the conformation of my slowly developing line of Boston Terriers. She has more substance than my other girls, and is just more correct overall. Her flaw is her excitability.

You may have noticed that Bebe is the only dog of mine with no titles. It is not entirely her fault. About the time she came of age to be shown, my husband was involved in a car accident and as a result has been unable to work. The limited funds in combination with the arrival of our new son has left me without dog shows. But we don't mind. Bebe will make her weight pull debut in October of 2007.

BeBe rounds out the third generation of Boston Terriers owned by Kismet Kennel.

UWP CH Kismet's Jazz Box Bonnie TT

Bonnie is from the first litter that I bred. She was freewhelped on August 20, 2003 and was the third puppy born in a litter of seven. She is a cutesy prissy girly little dog who demands attention by pressing her head into your hand, and giving little moans of pleasure when petted. Bonnie is the only dog that I kept for breeding out of the litter. While I did have her brother for two years, he was neutered and later placed in a pet home. All the other pups from her litter were sold on limited registration, with exception of one, who has passed on. So it has been up to Bonnie to carry the torch of her lineage and she didn't disappoint.

Bonnie was bred once to UWP Flying Ford Taurus Fifty CGC TT while he was residing with me on a co-ownership. We did a natural breeding and this resulted in three puppies. Bonnie had them via c-section and they were all perfectly marked: two girls and a boy. Named for Kill Bill characters, we kept one female.

Bonnie has proven to be a very intelligent dog with an outgoing personality. She also has a strong stubborn streak and is the alert dog, quick to let me know when a squirrel or cat is invading the yard.

UAGI UWP CH Kismet Joham's Princess Leia CD CGC TT

"Missy" is my first Boston Terrier. She has been a joy to own and train, excelling in everything I ask of her, and then some. She was born on August 25, 2001. Bred by John & Pam Kelton, Joham's Boston Terriers. Matt and I went out to look at her the winter of 2001 and it was love at first sight. We decided to name her after a Star Wars theme and her callname initially was to be "Princess" but it just didn't stick.

Missy produced one litter of seven pups when bred to Ch. Katbird's One N Only Jazzman. We lost one pup (the first one out, perfectly marked female) however the whole litter was freewhelped. Missy was later bred to visiting superstar Ch Borocco's Fifty-Fifty and produced one puppy which we lost at birth, a perfectly marked male with a lightning streak down the back of his neck.

Missy has been spayed but her legacy lives on through her daughter Bonnie, and her granddaughter BeBe.

Missy has earned her CD title with the American Kennel Club, this is the first real title I have ever been awarded with a dog from AKC. She actually qualified four times, that was my fault for not paying attention to the judge list. The first and third time she qualified it was under Mr. James D Thomson. Our second Q score was under Mrs Carol R Callahan. So our last qualifying score was awarded at the Boston Terrier Nationals in Portland, OR *on April 12, 2006 under Judge Mrs. Noreen Cartwright. She placed first in her class at the National show.

We are also active in agility. She has her first level agility title with UKC, and two out of the three legs needed for her level 2 title.

UAGI UCD GRCH 'PR' Heron Falls Risky Business CGC TT

"Buddy," as he is fondly called, was born on April 16, 1998. He was bred by Melanie Mills of Heron Falls Kennel in Washington State. Buddy's mom was a #1 Top Ten conformation dog in her day, breaking the record of points earned by a female to that point. Mel offered him to me on a co-ownership with the understanding that I would show him in conformation. Not only did we do that, we went on to title in weight pull, obedience, and agility. He is a SuperDog with UKC, earning titles in all four events.

Buddy sired two litters when bred to CH 'PR' Caragan's Dancin Doll. Most of them went to pet homes, although a few have competed in conformation and/or weight pull and done well.

He now lives the life of luxery as a spoiled house dog admidst a sea of Boston Terriers.

What Do All Those Titles Mean?
I have been fortunate to have had a good working partner in a dog who is willing to do the things that I ask of him.

UAGI means United Agility I (One) and this is the first level agility title. Dogs must negotiate a timed course which consists of 13 obstacles; six non-hurdle obstacles and six hurdle obstacles, and the pause table. The course may vary in length from 120 to 200 yards. Dogs must score a 170/200 or higher to qualify. Three qualifying scores earns you the title.

UCD means "United Companion Dog" and is the first level obedience title. Exercises that must be performed are "Honor" - the dog does a down-stay while another dog heels with their person in the same ring. "Heel on Leash and Figure 8" - the dog does a heeling pattern on-leash and a figure 8 around two people also on-leash. "Stand for Examination" - you stand your dog and leave them while the judge comes over and touches the head, shoulders and back of the dog. You return to your dog. The dog must remain stationary the whole time. "Heel Off Leash" is the same heeling pattern as above but is done off-leash. "Recall Over High Jump" in this exercise you sit and leave your dog and walk to the other side of the ring. There is a jump between you and your dog. When you call your dog they must come over the jump to a sit right in front of you. When asked, the dog will finish to heel position. "Long Sit" this exercise is done with all the other dogs entered in the trial. You sit and leave your dog and walk to the other side of the ring. The dog must stay in a sit next to the other dogs for 1 minute.

UWP means "United Weight Puller" and the dog must pull a % of its body weight three times to earn this one. In our case we pulled on a rail track so Buddy had to pull at 10x his body weight three different times to qualify.

GRCH means "Grand Champion" and is a conformation title. After a dog earns the Champion title they then compete against other champions. You must earn 5 wins from the Champion class (with a minimum of three champions entered) to earn the Grand Champion title.

CGC means Canine Good Citizen. This is a test that was developed with the American Kennel Club to reward dogs that are good 'citizens.' Dogs are tested in 10 areas including obedience and temperament

TT means Temperament Tested. This test is put on by the American Temperament Test Society (atts.org) and tests a dogs stability in many areas from everything to friendly stranger to aggressive stranger. Also covers strange footing and distractions like an umbrella opening in front of the dog and a series of gunshots. The dogs are judged on their reactions and how well they recover from the things that might startle them.
